The bread machine can do a lot more than just make bread. Use the dough setting to help create the perfect fluffy soft pretzels!
Jump to RecipeWhen I was a teenager, going to the mall was one of the things my friends and I did on the weekends. We always made a stop at Auntie Anne’s Pretzels and I still get one whenever I pass a booth. The airport by me has one in the terminal we usually fly from, so I can count on delicious soft pretzels when I take a trip.
Instead of having to go to the nearest mall, though, I wanted to make some on our own. The bread machine we have came with a recipe book and included one for soft pretzels.
Apparently, I’m not too great with pretzel dough, though, and forming and shaping it. Mine came out to be mini-sized and I liked them that way! They were thick, but it made them more doughy which was perfect.

Mini Soft Pretzels Step by Step
Ingredients
- 2 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 7/8 cup water
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp coarse salt

Preparation
Add all ingredients to the bread pan except salt and egg.

Select “dough” and press start. When the bread machine is done, remove the dough onto a lightly floured countertop.

Divide the dough into 12 pieces and roll it into 8-inch ropes.

Form each rope into pretzel shapes and place them on a cookie sheet.

Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 425F. Brush each pretzel with egg and sprinkle with salt.

Bake 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.

Mini Soft Pretzels Leftovers
Leftover soft pretzels can be stored in a container at room temperature. They start to lose their fluffy soft texture after a day or two, so are best eaten quickly.

Small but thick and doughy is how I like them too. These would be fun to make in the bread machine. The little size makes it easier for everyone to use their own toppings too.
