Make tender, juicy Instant Pot teriyaki beef in under 45 minutes! This easy, family-friendly dinner recipe features a sweet and savory homemade sauce with no marinating required.
Teriyaki has always been one of my favorite flavors when it comes to Japanese food. I love the sweet but savory taste with the bit of saltiness in there, too. If you choose to, you can make your own homemade teriyaki sauce for the recipe. But since we were short on time, I wanted this to be an easy recipe in less time than it would take to make a sauce from scratch.
Surprisingly, this was a recipe the whole family enjoyed. The boys didn’t eat the cooked onions, but they liked the beef with sauce.
By pressure cooking the meat, it’s done quickly for an easy weeknight dinner. If you have more time, you could also make it in the slow cooker, though that would have a longer cooking time. I would also sear the meat before adding it to the slow cooker to make sure it cooks through properly. If you use a slow cooker, you can use tougher cuts of meat since it will soften as it cooks.
The Best Cut of Beef to Use
While there are so many different cuts of beef, there are a few that will work best for teriyaki beef in the instant pot. I used a container of Angus beef already cut into strips. You can also use skirt steak, sirloin steak, or stew meat. You want to use tender beef that you can cut into strips or chunks. Because it’s being cooked in a sauce, you can usually use a less expensive cut of beef such as round steak. Any of these can be found in your local grocery store.
Serving Suggestions
Pair this Instant Pot Teriyaki Beef with:
- Lettuce wraps for a low-carb option
- Steamed Jasmine or Basmati rice
- Instant Pot brown rice (set it and forget it!)
- Stir-fried vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas
- Ramen noodles or soba noodles for an Asian-inspired twist
Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- Swap the Meat: You can substitute flank steak with chuck roast, stew meat, or even thinly sliced chicken thighs. Adjust pressure cook time by 1–2 minutes for thinner cuts.
- Vegetarian Option: Replace beef with extra-firm tofu or mushrooms. Use the same teriyaki sauce and cook for 1 minute under pressure.
- Low-Sodium Teriyaki: Use coconut aminos or low-sodium soy sauce to reduce the salt content while keeping that delicious umami flavor.
Teriyaki Beef FAQ
It will keep for up to 4 days in an airtight container. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
Yes! Let it cool completely, then freeze in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight and reheat on the sauté function.
No marinating required! Pressure cooking infuses the beef with flavor quickly, so you can skip that step and still get tender, juicy results.
Absolutely—just make sure not to fill your Instant Pot past the max fill line. Cooking time remains the same.

Instant Pot Teriyaki Beef Leftovers
Storage: Store leftover teriyaki beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating: Reheat the beef in a small saucepan over medium heat until warmed through. If it’s dry, you can add more water, teriyaki sauce, beef broth, or a bit of olive oil to the pan.
Freezing: You can freeze teriyaki beef for up to 2-3 months. The meat will absorb the sauce, though, so you may want to add up to a cup of water when you reheat.

Instant Pot Teriyaki Beef is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The Instant Pot makes it possible to have this meal on the table in a fraction of the time it would take to cook it traditionally.
It could have been the brand of sauce that I used, but the flavor was overwhelming. It was perfectly cooked, but I believe I will cut the amount of teriyaki sauce in half if we try this recipe again.
I’m glad you otherwise enjoyed the recipe. Some sauces are stronger than others. Another option is to mix the teriyaki sauce with water to equal the same amount of liquid to cut that flavor in half.
