Classic Grilled Cheese

There are so many ways to make a grilled cheese sandwich, but this is my favorite. It's a classic grilled cheese, no frills, no extras.

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 slices sandwich bread
  • 2 slices cheese


  • Heat a flat pan over medium heat
  • Meanwhile, butter one side of each slice of bread
  • Place one piece of bread, butter side down, on the warm pan and add a slice of cheese on top of the bread
  • Cover cheese with other slice of bread, butter side up
  • Repeat with remaining bread and cheese to form a second sandwich
  • Cook over medium for about 3-5 minutes on each side until cooked to desired doneness
