Adding a few fun ingredients to a regular Rice Krispies recipe makes a fun treat. Sprinkled Rice Krispies were created by kids for kids!
Jump to RecipeAt the beginning of 2021, we started a star reward system with the boys. One of the rewards they can choose is to bake a dessert together. Tyler chose to make some Rice Krispies treats but wanted to make them his own. He also asked us if he could get our equipment out and photograph the recipe. Of course, we said he could do that. All of these photos are his own, as well as the recipe. We did very little to guide him, and he is so proud of his work! The description and recipe that follows are written by Tyler (7.5 years old).

Sprinkled Rice Krispies are a type of Rice Krispies treat. I put the sprinkles in because I wanted them to taste better. And I thought about making them because I really love Rice Krispies and really wanted to make some. I wanted them extra yummy so decided to add cinnamon, sprinkles, and candy eyeballs. The candy eyeballs were a “surprise” in the Rice Krispies because we only had a few. Everyone in the house likes the candy eyeballs so it made them more delicious for everybody.
I really liked the Rice Krispies how they were, so wouldn’t make them different next time. Except maybe to add a few more candy eyeballs if we have them. That’s the surprise in the Rice Krispies. You never know when you are going to get one of the candy eyeballs!

Sprinkled Rice Krispies FAQs
No, unfortunately they are not gluten-free or vegan. The Rice Krispies cereal is made with malt, which contains gluten. And the butter and marshmallows are not vegan-friendly. Plus, the use of butter means they aren’t dairy-free, either.
They cool very quickly once removed from the heat. It doesn’t take any longer than 30 minutes, but will often take less time than that.
If you have them sealed well, Rice Krispies will last about 2-3 days on the counter at room temperature.
Sucha fun idea! I love that your son did this himself.! Way to go!

That was Tyler’s favorite part, the surprise eyeballs! Now he wants to make a chocolate cake with the eyeballs in it. I have a feeling we will have a theme with his recipes for a while!

I hadn’t really, either, until I was researching for this post.
