Blackberry cookies are a delightful twist on the classic cookie recipe, combining the tart juiciness of blackberries with the rich sweetness of chocolate.
Chocolate chip cookies made with blackberry jam or preserves are a great way to add a fruity summer flavor to the classic cookies.
Blackberry preserves, jam, or puree replace the wet ingredients found in most cookie recipes. You’ll still need the typical flour mixture of flour, baking soda, and salt. But you don’t need oil or eggs for this blackberry cookie recipe.
How to Use Fresh Blackberries
If you have fresh or frozen blackberries, you can use those in this recipe. For frozen berries, make sure you let them thaw until they are soft or thaw in a medium saucepan on low heat or in the microwave. Use an immersion blender to puree the blackberries in a small bowl. You will need about 1 cup of blackberries to have 3/4 cup of blackberry puree. You could also put the berries in a food processor or high-powered blender to make the puree.
Serving Suggestions & Tips
- If you don’t want the blackberry seeds in your cookies, you can press the preserves through a fine mesh sieve to remove them.
- Try these with other fruits, such as blueberries or strawberries.
- Swap chocolate chips for white chocolate chips for a lighter chocolate flavor.
- Add a touch of cinnamon to the cookie dough to warm up the flavor.
- Make sure to let the cookies cool on the baking sheet before moving to a cooling rack as they will be soft.
- If you plan to use a stand mixer, use the whisk until you add the chocolate chips. At that point, either fold in by hand with a rubber spatula or use the paddle attachment to prevent the chips from denting the wire whisk.
- Turn these into lemon blackberry cookies by adding a little bit of lemon zest to the cookie dough.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar or top with whipped cream.

Blackberry Cookies Step by Step
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup blackberry preserves
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, beat butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes until light and fluffy.

Beat in the blackberry preserves and vanilla extract on low speed until combined with the creamed mixture.

Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl then stir in the dry ingredients, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Use a tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the dough and place it on a prepared baking stone or cookie sheet.

Refrigerate the extra dough between each batch of cookies.
Bake cookies for about 10-15 minutes, until lightly golden brown on the edges.

Cool for a few minutes before moving to a wire rack.

Blackberry Cookies Leftovers
Storage: Place remaining cookies in an airtight container and keep at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Freezing: You can freeze unbaked blackberry cookie dough by shaping it into a log and wrapping it tightly with plastic wrap. Freeze for up to 4 months before thawing and baking. Or, store them as cookie dough balls for up to 1 month in a freezer-safe container.
