When it’s cool outside, a nice warm slow cooker meal is perfect for dinner. My favorite is homemade chili, but the boys aren’t the biggest fans of it. So we try to make different things and came up with this slow cooker chicken and dressing.

I actually got this recipe from a friend on Facebook. She posted about making something very similar and it sounded delicious. I took a screenshot and saved it for the winter. Well, that was a few years ago and I finally found the image again and decided it was time to give it a try.

This recipe is so simple and the ingredients are really easy. Slow cooker chicken and dressing is a dump-and-go recipe. You add everything to the slow cooker then let it work its magic on the meal!

You can also change the flavor depending on which soup you purchase. I added cream of celery to mine, but you could also do cream of mushroom if you prefer that or any other cream soup.

Leftovers

Leftover slow cooker chicken and dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for up to 2 days. After that, the dressing will start to get too soggy. I reheated it in the microwave but you could also cook it on medium-low in a saucepan, stirring often, until it’s warmed through.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dressing FAQs

Which stuffing works best?

I like to get the chicken flavored stuffing mix since you are making it with chicken. Otherwise, if you need an alternative, the herbed stuffing would also be good.

Do I have to use Cream of Celery?

No, you can use any “cream of” soup. I like the celery, but you can use mushroom or any other vegetable cream soup.

What can I do if I don’t have chicken broth?

The first choice would be to mix water with chicken bouillon. If you don’t have that, you can sub for vegetable broth, the flavor just isn’t as strong.

This is an interesting recipe. I’ve never thought of using a slow cooker to prepare dressing. For almost all of my life, the oven (specifically the top rack) has been where dressings are made. I wonder if preparing via a slow cooker allows for it to dry out more slowly or not at all.

This really does sound like a tasty recipe. It’s great that leftovers can be stored for a few days although I doubt there would be any.

  3. I can make this tomorrow night. This looks super delicious! I’ll definitely be trying this really soon for sure.

This looks like a great comfort food recipe! Can homemade stuffing be used in this recipe? They don’t sell the boxed one here in Spain, but I’d like to give this recipe a try.

  5. I had to get rid of my cooker because the handle kept popping off when it got hot. Pity because I loved the look of that particular cooker. I will get a new one though, and this recipe sounds great.

I made this recipe and it was sooo good! I was short on cream of celery so I used cream of mushroom and it was still so good! Saving this pin to make again!
