Chicken and dressing in the slow cooker is an easy dump-and-cook meal. Use only 4 simple ingredients to have a delicious weeknight dinner.
Jump to RecipeWhen it’s cool outside, a nice warm slow cooker meal is perfect for dinner. My favorite is homemade chili, but the boys aren’t the biggest fans of it. So we try to make different things and came up with this slow cooker chicken and dressing.
I actually got this recipe from a friend on Facebook. She posted about making something very similar and it sounded delicious. I took a screenshot and saved it for the winter. Well, that was a few years ago and I finally found the image again and decided it was time to give it a try.
This recipe is so simple and the ingredients are really easy. Slow cooker chicken and dressing is a dump-and-go recipe. You add everything to the slow cooker then let it work its magic on the meal!
You can also change the flavor depending on which soup you purchase. I added cream of celery to mine, but you could also do cream of mushroom if you prefer that or any other cream soup.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dressing Step by Step
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken breast, boneless, skinless
- 10.5 oz cream of celery
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 6 oz boxed stuffing mix, chicken flavor

Preparation
Place the chicken in the bottom of the slow cooker.

Pour in the cream of celery and chicken broth then top with stuffing mixture.

Cook on low for 7 hours or high for 4 hours.
Shred the chicken and serve warm.

Leftovers
Leftover slow cooker chicken and dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for up to 2 days. After that, the dressing will start to get too soggy. I reheated it in the microwave but you could also cook it on medium-low in a saucepan, stirring often, until it’s warmed through.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dressing FAQs
I like to get the chicken flavored stuffing mix since you are making it with chicken. Otherwise, if you need an alternative, the herbed stuffing would also be good.
No, you can use any “cream of” soup. I like the celery, but you can use mushroom or any other vegetable cream soup.
The first choice would be to mix water with chicken bouillon. If you don’t have that, you can sub for vegetable broth, the flavor just isn’t as strong.

This is an interesting recipe. I’ve never thought of using a slow cooker to prepare dressing. For almost all of my life, the oven (specifically the top rack) has been where dressings are made. I wonder if preparing via a slow cooker allows for it to dry out more slowly or not at all.
I love anytime you post slow cooker recipes! We’ve tried several and this one is for sure on my list now!
