I like to use my rice steamer when we cook rice. It makes it easy, and the cleanup is minimal. Plus, you set the appliance and it does the rest of the work. I’ve used the instant pot as well, but it takes longer because of the time it takes to pressurize.
We’ve made quite a few types of rice in the past, including a box of Zatarain’s rice in the steamer. But this recipe lets you customize exactly the flavor you want and need.
The first time I made herbed rice, it was to go with our Italian-Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin recipe. Since that uses both thyme and rosemary, that’s what we put into the rice along with a few other seasonings.

Step by Step
Place the hot cooked rice in a medium mixing bowl. Add the butter and stir until it melts.

Sprinkle the seasonings on top.

Stir to coat the rice with seasonings and serve immediately.

Leftovers
Any leftover herbed rice can be stored in a container in the refrigerator. When you want to reheat, add a small amount of butter to the rice and cook either in the microwave or in a small pot over medium heat. Stir often until the rice is warmed through.

We grew up eating plain, white rice so when we discovered flavoured, herbed rice, it was glorious! This looks delicious and can’t wait to try it.
We ate a lot of packaged rice, so making it with my own seasonings was new for me.
I really need to do rice more as a side. I always forget about it!
I tend to as well! My boys are hit or miss on it, so I don’t think about it much either since I don’t know if they will eat it.
Thank you for this recipe. I always eat rice (as it is a common side dish here in Japan) but I should spice it up with things like herbs! Thanks for the idea!
I like adding spices that compliment the meal it’s going with so the rice isn’t so plain.
I had not been a fan of rice as it’s so bland, but this sounds like the perfect solution.
I agree, rice on its own doesn’t have much flavor. Adding a bit of butter and seasonings makes a big difference.
There is nothing better than a simple rice as a side for dinner. I can’t wait to try this!
I like to put herbs in my butter already, sounds like it would save me a step with this recipe too if the butter already has herbs in it. I like Rice as a side dish, good to mix up how you prepare it to keep things interesting at meal time.
Sometimes plain rice could be boring. Thanks for sharing this simple herbed rice. It sounds great
I usually do fried garlic rice as it goes to most dishes but will try this too for a change.
Adding herbs and butter is such a quick and easy way to relevant a standard rice dish. I think a bit of garlic would be lovely in there too.
This si great to spice up white plain rice. I would add some garlic or nuts
We always have leftovers at home but I never thought this way. Thanks for giving me some ideas
Simple dish with great flavor. We eat rice multiple times a week so thanks for sharing.
Yummy I love rice. This herb rice looks so good, I can’t wait to try it.
Love this, as some times rice can be a bit bland so it is a great idea to jazz things up a little. This will be perfect for my curry evening x
Rice on the side is so good! And I LOVE adding thyme! This recipe looks amazing and I can’t wait to give it a go. Thank you for sharing it with us 🙂
This is a cool and quick way to cook the rice. Sometimes we skip it, haha but I guess this won’t have an excuse. Will give it a try. Thank you for sharing!
This looks great and easy too! Rice can go with just about any main dish too!
Oh i have tried this before. Although what i had have local herbs as they are more accessible in my area.. I honestly enjoyed it more than typical fried rice.. The aroma is what really makes this dish stand out
Wow, you’ve got me with this herbed rice recipe! I hate wasting rice, and leftover rice is always the best. I will try this recipe!
We have a friend who is make roasted garlic rice. It was so delicious. This recipe reminds me of that
This sounds so good. Often, simple food is the best. I assume with some peas or beans, this rice becomes a delicious main course.
