A margarita is a simple yet classic cocktail perfect for any occasion. This 3 ingredient margarita comes together in minutes.
Jump to RecipeFor most people, when you think of the perfect drink for those warm summer days, a cold margarita is at the top of that list. Maybe it comes to mind for you around Cinco de Mayo. Or, for some, having a good margarita after a long day is an excellent way to end the evening.
Having a few simple ingredients on hand makes it easy to prepare the perfect margarita anytime you want one. We make ours with tequila, agave syrup, and lime juice. Many will use either triple sec or simple syrup, but we like the ease of having a bottle of agave syrup ready to go. It gives the right sweet flavor without the orange liqueur since I don’t care for orange drinks as much.
There’s also a difference in taste if you can use fresh lime juice. If we do that, I purchase two limes per drink. The first is to squeeze fresh for the drink. The other lime is cut into slices to have a lime slice for the garnish at the end.
Since a traditional margarita is made with tequila, which I don’t care for very much, I don’t drink this drink very often. But Justin enjoys one when we have Mexican food for dinner. There are many tequila brands, and the best tequila will make the best margarita. You don’t have to spend a lot, though, on good-quality tequila, just make sure it’s a decent one.
If you want to add a salt rim to your glass, it’s pretty easy to do. Start by getting two shallow bowls, one with water and the other filled with salt. Dip the rim of the glass into the bowl of water and then into the bowl of salt. You can purchase specially-made margarita salt, sea salt, or kosher salt.
Homemade margaritas are the best because you can customize them to your liking. You can make a simple margarita as below, or get margarita mix and add some flavor to that.
