Homemade Pizza Burgers: The Best Combo of Two Recipes

Two of our favorite meals are pizza and hamburgers. Pizza burgers are a great combination of the two favorites into one delicious meal!

Jump to Recipe

In my family, we love both pizza and juicy burgers. Fresh mozzarella cheese is the best when making anything since it melts so well and is so creamy. Plus, I love marinara sauce or pizza sauce on just about anything. Combine that with the great flavor of a perfectly grilled burger and it’s a delicious meal!

I’ll be honest, it took a lot to convince me to try these. We had been talking about them for a while, but I have been spoiled by how good our BBQ burgers are. No other burger has been as good to me since Justin started making those. But, I will say, this pizza burger recipe is amazing! We will be going back and forth between the two recipes now when we want burgers.

The boys also enjoyed these and thought they were a fun combination. When I first said pizza burgers they weren’t sure what to expect. They both said they still prefer regular pizza but would eat the pizza burgers again.

Pizza Burgers Step by Step

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 oz fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
  • 4 dinner rolls

Combine ground beef, parsley, oregano, pepper, and salt in a large bowl.

Ground beef with seasonings in a stainless steel bowl on a wooden surface

Cut the meat mixture into quarters and form into beef patties about 1/2″ thick.

4 ground beef patties on a white plate on a wooden surface

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and add the patties, cooking for about 5-8 minutes per side, until the desired doneness.

4 burger patties cooked in a skillet on a wooden surface

Add a scoop of pizza sauce to each patty.

4 burger patties covered with pizza sauce in a skillet on a wooden surface

Top each with a slice of mozzarella cheese.

Cover and cook another 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts. Serve the pizza burgers on the dinner rolls with extra sauce to dip.

Pizza Burgers Leftovers

Don’t assemble any leftover pizza burgers on their buns. Store the burger patties covered with sauce and cheese in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat either in a skillet or in the oven until warmed through. Then assemble the burger. If you store the patty on the bun, it will make the bread soggy.

Pizza Burgers FAQs

Can I use a different meat than ground beef?

I haven’t tried it with anything else. But if you don’t eat beef, you could try with a different ground meat.

Can pizza burgers be frozen?

I would not suggest freezing the final burgers. If you want to make some ahead, prepare the patties and freeze those before cooking. They can last up to 3 months in the freezer when stored properly.

Where do I find fresh mozzarella cheese?

Our grocery store has a speciality cheese section that’s separate from the regular sliced and shredded cheeses. I find fresh mozzarella in this area.

Can I use Italian Seasoning instead of individual seasoning?

Yes, if you’d prefer, you can use Italian Seasoning in the meat mixture instead of the parsley and oregano.

Can I add other toppings to the pizza burgers?

Yes, by all means, add your favorite pizza toppings to the burgers. You can top the cheese with pepperoni slices, bacon slices, or anything else you typically eat on your pizza or hamburger.

Do I have to eat these on dinner rolls?

Nope, you can try other types of bread if you prefer. Pizza burgers would also be good on hamburger buns, English muffins, or Kaiser rolls.
