Cheesy Baked Pizza Breadsticks from Premade Dough

Pizza Breadsticks are a great appetizer of a combination of breadsticks with pizza flavor and sauce to dip them in.

Jump to Recipe

At our house, we love both bread and pizza. I’ve made all types of pizza including pizza flatbread and pizza tacos. So why not pizza breadsticks?

We made some regular breadsticks in the past, so I used that recipe to start and added the pizza flavors. You can add any other pizza toppings to the breadsticks you may want. Tyler, Ryan, and I like lots of cheese, so we stuck with that. Justin likes more than that, so I will add some toppings to his before baking.

You can make these as a perfect side dish to go with other Italian meals, as an appetizer, or as the perfect snack for after school. We ended up making dinner out of them by dipping in either pizza sauce or marinara sauce. We love having a dipping sauce for things like this!

Ingredients Options

As with most pizza recipes, you have a lot of options when it comes to your ingredients. You can change the type of cheese you use or add other toppings. The options range from simple ingredients to meat you need to cook ahead of time. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Tomato sauce
  • Pizza sauce
  • Marinara sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Pepperoni
  • Ground beef
  • Sausage
  • Mushrooms
  • Red onion
  • Green bell pepper
  • Black olives
  • Fresh herbs such as basil, oregano, and parsley
  • Spinach

I also used a premade pizza crust from the refrigerator section of our grocery store, but you can use homemade pizza dough as well for the base of the easy homemade breadsticks.

Pizza Breadsticks Step by Step

Ingredients

  • 13.8 oz pizza dough, refrigerated
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, finely shredded
  • 2 tbsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 8 oz pizza sauce, warmed
Ingredients for pizza breaksticks

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 425F. Lightly grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.

Unroll the refrigerated pizza crust and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. If you are worried about damaging your baking sheet when you cut the breadsticks later, place a piece of parchment paper on the baking sheet.

Press the dough to the edges of the baking sheet.

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut dough crosswise into 8 strips one inch each, then cut in half lengthwise to make 16 strips. If you have your breadsticks on parchment paper, you should be able to move the whole thing to a cutting board before slicing then back to the pan to bake.

Bake for 10-13 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve with pizza sauce.

Pizza Breadsticks Leftovers

Extra breadsticks can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator. They will last longer in the fridge, but you may want to heat them up a bit before eating.

  1. As always a really handy step by step guide. I love the fact that this will be easy to do and something fun to try out one weekend xx

  2. This looks amazing and sounds even better. I would kill for something like this tonight rather than what I’ll most likely be having which is rice and veg.
