No-Bake Cereal Bars from Crumbs

Who else hates all the crumbs at the bottom of a bag of cereal? I don’t like eating it, but at the same time, I feel bad throwing it away and wasting good food. So, I decided to save all the crumbs until I had enough to make some cereal bars with it.

Whenever we would get to the bottom of the cereal, I poured that into a container to save while we opened a new box. After a few weeks, I saved up enough crumbs. We go through a lot of cereal since we each have a bowl for breakfast almost every morning.

The best part about these cereal bars is how easy they are to make. There are only 3 ingredients, and they are a great recipe to have the kids help with.

We made two batches, one with almond butter and one with peanut butter. I don’t like peanut butter, but the boys said they were delicious. I really liked the cereal bars with almond butter.

The cereal bars were great for a variety of uses. Of course, they were good for breakfast, and with the nut butter, they are full of protein which is a wonderful way to start the day. You could also eat the cereal bars could as snacks, and I sent them in the boy’s lunch boxes a couple of days.

Step by Step

In a medium saucepan, heat the nut butter over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until it’s soft. Pour in the maple syrup and stir until combined.

In a large mixing bowl, fold the cereal crumbs into the nut butter mixture.

Pour the cereal mix into a greased 8×8 baking dish and press it down until flattened.

Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, until it’s chilled and firm. Remove the pan from the refrigerator and cut into bars. I found keeping these in the refrigerator worked best so they stay together.

    1. Oh, that sounds great, too! There are so many things you could add or take away. If you like these, I also have a recipe for granola bars that use dried fruit in them and are similar to these.
