We all enjoy having a yogurt parfait as a snack or breakfast. There are so many combinations, but the boys favorite is a Mixed Berry Yogurt Parfait. These make a great breakfast for when you are on-the-go since you can grab a jar and a spoon and have your meal ready.

We buy a large container of yogurt and split it out since we are trying to cut down on waste and eat as healthy as possible. We can make 4 yogurt parfaits from one container of yogurt. Fruit is a favorite at our house, so we use it a lot. If you like Greek yogurt, you could use that, too. I’ve tried plain yogurt and added sweetener and it isn’t the same. For now, we buy vanilla flavored yogurt.

The best part of making your own parfait is customizing it yourself. When we make parfaits, I let the boys put theirs together. This one uses their favorite berries: strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries fresh from the garden. Normally, I make the parfaits in a jar to keep in the refrigerator. When the parfaits will be eaten immediately, we build them in serving glasses or in a bowl.

I like to use fresh berries when we have them, but frozen work, too. If you use frozen berries, the parfaits need time to sit in the refrigerator while they thaw.

Step by Step

Prepare your parfait jars by cleaning out old glass jars or mason jars and find the matching lids.

Spoon the yogurt into each jar until they are about 1/3 full. Put a few pieces of the berries into each jar.

Add a few more scoops of yogurt to the jars. Top with more berries and walnuts if you want them.

Either eat immediately or seal and place in the refrigerator. The Mixed Berry Yogurt Parfait can be refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.

  • Ooh, so you do yours in advance in jars? Cool. I usually skip the nuts, and just dump it in a bowl - not terribly elegant, I know, but it gets the job done when I'm making breakfast for myself + the girls, usually lunch for all 3 of us as well, and my own coffee still! :) This is my every-morning breakfast unless it's cold enough for oatmeal. #yum

    • Yes, I prepare them on the weekends and they are good for most of the week. It lets me use frozen fruit, too, since it has time to thaw in the fridge.

  • It's so awesome to see the kids actively involved. Everytime I read your blogs I get super hungry. This is a great meal for a light breakfast. I love fruit in my yogurt.

    • My boys love to help in the kitchen. Well, the oldest likes to help, the youngest usually just wants to eat everything!

  • This looks deliciously healthy. I love the idea of having it done in a large container so you could cut waste and of course, eat healthily. My family loves fruits, I am going to make one of this.

    • I buy the biggest container of yogurt I can find for these. We all eat them, so it doesn't last long!

  • This looks delicious. I usually eat something similar for my breakfast... I love having fresh berries in summer. We grow raspberries and red currants in our garden so it's lovely to pick them fresh and eat them!

    • We have a lot of blackberries growing in our garden, so I use those a lot. We had strawberries but the birds kept eating them before we could get to them!

  • Yum!! Yogurt parfaits are a breakfast staple in our house. Especially now that they are so plentiful! Instead of adding nuts we make our own granola, which is more work, but SO worth it :)

    • I've made my own granola before, too. It takes some time but, as you said, so worth it to have fresh granola!

  • This looks yummy because I love vanilla yogurt. I have some mulberries growing in my garden. Will pluck them to make these for my breakfast tomorrow.

  • Ooh...this looks delicious. Fruit and Yogurt parfaits are so great as a healthy snack or breakfast option!

    • They are both in our house! I'll eat one for breakfast some days or as an evening snack other days.

  • Not only does this look delicious but my youngest will also love to help make it. I can’t wait to try it!

    • It's fun for the kids. You can lay out the options and let them fill their own so it's exactly what they want.

  • This looks very delicious. I think this would be a big hit in our house for breakfast. I love berries in general.

  • This sounds like such a yummy treat! I love a good parfait and the fruit of course is so good in them! Making this this weekend!!

    • We make them during the weekend and have breakfast and/or snacks throughout the week. It's so easy to prep ahead and have ready to grab.

  • This strawberry parfait sounds really nice..! Thanks for sharing such a wonderful and easy recipe..

    • It's definitely better making them yourself so they are fresh and exactly what you want.
