A Letter to My Family: 5 Things I Need Them To Know

No one wants to think of the inevitable. We don’t like to imagine the day that we leave this earth. But sometimes, we need to think of it. And we need to think about our family and what they will do without us. I’ve already written about making sure you have a good will written up, and why it’s important for both parents to have life insurance. But that only takes care of so much. This post is for my family. There are certain things that I may not say often enough, but I need them to know. So this post is written to my family, but is a great reminder for everyone to make sure you appreciate what you have, and to make sure those around you know they are appreciated as well. This year, my focus is on less negativity, and more gratefulness. I am extremely grateful for my family, but I don’t think I say it enough.

I love you

I try to make sure, every day, in some way, to show you how much I love you. I can say ‘I love you’ all day long, but it doesn’t mean anything if I don’t show it. Actions speak louder than words. And I really hope that my actions have proven just how deep my love for you goes.

I am proud of you

No matter what you do, no matter where you are, I am proud of you. I am proud of the wonderful life that we have built together. I am proud of the amazing boys we have raised. I am proud to call you all my family.

You, my family, are my greatest achievement

When I was younger, I dreamed of getting married and having a family. I never dreamed that it would be as amazing of a journey as we have made it. Of all the many things I have done in my life, big and small, my family has always been, and will always be, my greatest achievement.

I have no regrets

No matter where we are, no matter what happens, I have no regrets. You, my family, have fulfilled my life. There’s a song that I love that accurately reflects these feelings, called Die A Happy Man by Thomas Rhett. Yes, it’s written from a man’s perspective, but the message behind it is absolutely beautiful. If you haven’t heard it, please take a couple minutes to listen to it:

Thank you

Thank you for being patient with me when I needed it. Thank you for giving me all the love I didn’t know I was missing until you came along. Thank you for always being there for me, supporting me, working with me, encouraging me. Thank you for giving me a life worth living.
