Kitchen Organization, Day 4: Under the Sink

Kitchen Organization, Day 4: Under the Sink

Another space that tends to collect junk in the kitchen is under the sink. Get that organized so you can find what you need.

Welcome to Day 4 of the 6 day Kitchen Organization challenge! How’s it going so far? Feeling better about your kitchen already? I hope so! Today we have another easier task, so if you need to finish the refrigerator/freezer you should have time today.

Today’s Task: Under the Sink

Similar to the junk drawer, under the kitchen sink seems to be a place that things tend to gather unnecessarily.

  1. Take everything out from under the sink.
  2. Wipe down the cabinet if it needs it.
  3. Group similar things, such as cleaning supplies, dish cleaners, empty jars, etc. so you know about how much you have of everything.
  4. Decide if you need new containers to organize what you have under the sink.
  5. Put everything back in a more organized way.

Under the Sink in My Kitchen

We don’t keep much under our sink because, even though I have some cabinet locks on it, the boys still sometimes get the cabinet open. We have our dish drying towel under the sink, along with the detergent for the dishwasher, and the plugs for the sinks. In the back are some spare glass jars that we use for cooking oil, and a few scrubbing sponges. Our box of garbage bags is there since the garbage can is right next to the sink, and I have a fire extinguisher under the sink for emergencies. The last thing I did was put a small hook on the inside of the cabinet that we use to hang the dishwashing brush so it isn’t sitting out on the counter when we aren’t using it.

Your post is compelling me to look under my kitchen sink. I tend to keep my garbage bags there. Also keep some spare disposable bottles for travel. However without regular check it tends to overflow. I love your fire extinguisher idea though.
