A regular hamburger is great, but add some BBQ flavor and you have an amazing burger! This is better than you can get at a restaurant!
Jump to RecipeOk, well these BBQ Burgers are famous only in a few houses, but they are so good. I won’t eat burgers when we go out anymore because of this.
I don’t even remember where we got the idea, but one night, probably six years ago, we decided we wanted to try to do something different with our burgers to give them more flavor. We took a look in our pantry to see what we had and found some barbecue seasoning and sauce leftover from other meals. So we started mixing things and came up with this recipe for bbq burgers, and they are ah-maz-ing!
We grill almost year-round here since it’s always so warm in SE Texas. But, during the summer, we love traditional southern bbq sides such as coleslaw, potato salad, and french fries.

Justin’s Famous BBQ Burgers Step by Step
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 cups bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp bbq seasoning
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup bbq sauce
- 6 hamburger buns
- Desired toppings

Preparation
Start by dividing up your ground beef for the hamburger patties. You need to do a little bit of math here to figure out what size burgers you want. We usually make 1/3 pound burgers for the adults, and 1/4 pounders for the kids.
In one small bowl, combine the bread crumbs, bbq seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder. Add the bbq sauce to a separate small bowl. Roll each piece of ground beef into a ball, then coat with bread crumb mixture and work that into the meat.

Next, roll the meat into the bbq sauce and work that into the meat as well. Then flatten the beef out into the shape of a hamburger patty.

Justin’s expert advice: Once you shape the hamburgers, use your thumb to make in intend in the center of the patty to help them keep a better size while they are grilling. If we forget to do this, they end up more like a hockey puck than a hamburger!

Repeat this with each piece of ground beef. Then grill over medium heat until they reach your desired doneness, making sure to flip at least once. If you want a cheeseburger, add a slice of cheese in the last minute of cooking, just enough so that the cheese melts.

Serve on a hamburger bun with toppings such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc. There’s no wrong way to eat a hamburger, just pile on what you like and go for it!

I am DROOLING – HARD RIGHT NOW!!! I sooooooo want a burger today. But I wanna grill it myself! I have to wait a week and BAM, then I will be able to!
These are the best burgers! I missed having a grill for the few months we didn’t have one.
These look delicious! Home-made burgers are just so much tastier (and healthier!) than shop bought ones!
Oh my gosh, yes! And adding bbq sauce takes them to a whole new level for me.
Love your son has learned how to help make the hamburgers. Pass on recipes and making memories.
He loves to help in the kitchen! He has learned a lot with us, and continues to practice. And yes, making memories is always a bonus.
Oh, I am so hungry right now (dinner time) and this burger looks so delicious! You have the best helping hand in your kitchen! 🙂
Helene
Thanks! He loves to help in the kitchen and learn how to cook. He’s also started asking about watching cooking shows soon!
What a cool kid. He’s got my heart. My son has been making his own lunch lately. Maybe we will have chefs!!
My son has now started asking about cooking shows. We were watching a bit of Master Chef Junior the other day and he wants to be on there! I said he has a lot more to learn but we can work towards it!
You’ll never see me turning down a burger!! I love the extra BBQ spin on these. They look SO good. Can’t wait to grill them up this summer!
The bbq is what makes these so yummy! I won’t eat a burger now without it, I’ve been spoiled!
This looks really good. I love BBQ sauce on my burger. Never thought of putting it IN my burger.
It tastes so good when it’s cooked into the burger!
We love making burgers at home and grilling them. I especially like cooking my kiddos, so I loved seeing the pictures. These look great.
My oldest loves helping out in the kitchen in any way he can. My youngest just cares about eating when we are done!
Yummy! This looks perfect. I am hungry just reading your post! Definitely going to make this recipe!
I hope you do! It will change the way you think about burgers, at least, it has for me!
This is a great summer recipe! My husband would love this one! I need to make this for him for sure!
We love burgers any time of the year, but especially in the summer when we spend a lot of time outside at the grill.
What a talented kid you got there! I will definitely try the thumb print in the patty tip. No one likes a hockey puck burger!
He’s been learning a lot in the kitchen over the last year or two! And the thumbprint trick really does work well!!
So yummy. Burgers are my absolute favorite food! I have to stop myself from eating them every day.
This is the only way I will eat a burger now, but it’s one of my favorites, too! We make these at least once a month, even through the winter!
Wow! Absolutely looks yummy and this makes me hungry, I reallylove the recipe Im sure my hubby wouldlove this too
Adding the bbq sauce into the burgers gives it so much extra flavor compared to a regular burger!
This looks absolutely amazing! The fact that your kid made this is stunning too, as a child I wasn’t able to make a meager meal 🙂
We didn’t let him work at the actual grill yet, but he was very interested in learning to form the burgers and get them ready for daddy to grill.
I actually had some of Justin’s Famous BBQ Burgers and they are fantastic!! The burgers are rich in flavor and taste delicious. Easy to make and a great way to spice up a normal BBQ. I highly recommend you try the recipe and cook them for the family – they’ll be hooked!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the burgers! This is the only way I will eat a burger now.
Wow! This burger is great! Just tried the recipe today and it really gave the burger a lot of flavor . Will do it again.
Awesome! I love hearing that others enjoy the recipes we make. We love them in our family, and so glad yours does, too.
These sound amazing! I have never heard of the thumb print idea, definitely something I’ll be trying.
It works really well! Since you press down the center, when it rises as it cooks it just becomes level with the rest of the meat rather than puffing up.
Just by looking at the burger I can tell that it is delicious. I better try out the recipe because I am sure my mum and dad will love it.
We all devour these burgers here! The bbq adds so much flavor and makes it unique.
Wow! burgers and that too BBQ….. Mouth watering and delicious. Summers are great time to enjoy burgers. I would love to try this recipe for my little one. He would love it
My boys both love these burgers. They are a family favorite here any time of the year, but especially the summer.
I ONLY eat home made burgers and this recipe will definitely be a success! I will try it this weekend! fingers crossed we get BBQ weather 🙂
These burgers have me spoiled and it’s the only ones I will eat now, too. Hopefully, the weather is great for you so you can enjoy some yummy bbq!
This looks lipsmacking delicious! Gotta try this for my daughter. Love your recipes!
It’s the best burger I’ve ever had. They are so much better than a plain burger!
Nothing beats homemade food any day. Your son must sure enjoy cooking with his momma.
Yes, he does! This was actually cooking with daddy since he is the one who does the grilling. But it doesn’t matter who it is, he just loves to cook.
Such a great recipe 👌 Mr husband loves burgers and that too BBQ one, hmmm I am sure he is gonna love it 😍 I’ll try to make this for him ☺
If you like bbq flavor, then you’ll be spoiling him! I won’t eat a plain burger now because these have so much flavor in them.
Awwww! That’s so cute getting him to help out like that in the kitchen. I was doing something like this with my daughter on Monday at the BBQ. She had a lot of fun doing it with the corn, steak and potatoes. I can see why you wouldn’t want to eat burgers anywhere else. 🙂
I love having my kids help in the kitchen. My youngest doesn’t always want to, but my oldest does. You can make such great memories together in the kitchen.
