Music for Better Concentration

My Favorite Music for Better Concentration

What do you do to put yourself “in the zone”? How do you make sure you have the ability to concentrate on what you are working on? Sometimes, with the hustle and bustle of home life, it can be hard to focus. I have found that having some music on can really help me get myself where I need to be. If you take a look at my Spotify account, I have a few different types of playlists. And they are all drastically different, depending on what I am going to be doing.

Cleaning Playlist

When I am cleaning the house, I put my cleaning playlist on the Echo, and crank it up loud. It’s full of mostly upbeat songs that keep me moving. Ok, and maybe dancing and singing a little as well. Here are some of the highlights of my cleaning playlist:

  • “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins
  • “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey
  • “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi
  • “Yeah” by Usher
  • “Bye Bye Bye” by *NSYNC
  • “Quit Playing Games with my Heart” by Backstreet Boys
  • “All Star” by Smash Mouth

Fun/Singing Out Loud Playlist

My “Fun” playlist is for those times that we just want to have a dance party in the house. These are the songs that I will also put on in the car (especially when I am by myself) and just crank it up and sing it out loud! I’m sure my neighbors just love it!!

  • “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys
  • “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion
  • “U Got It Bad” by Usher
  • “Snapback” by Old Dominion (Tyler’s favorite)
  • “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey (yes, again)
  • “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
  • “Shape of my Heart” by Backstreet Boys

Ok, so it’s pretty obvious I love my 90s boy bands music. I do have another station that is just for my 90s music as well. It’s full of BSB, *NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears… maybe a little Hanson and 98 Degrees. Brings me back to my middle and high school days!

Writing Playlist

My playlist for concentrating on my writing, or when I just really need to focus and get something done, is very different from my other playlists. This playlist is full of instrumental music. When I am trying to write, I have a hard time listening to music with words. I get distracted and find myself listening to the song more than I am focusing on what I am doing. Instrumental music helps me forget about everything else, and just get engrossed in my work. There are so many good options for instrumental music, but I always prefer movie soundtracks. Here are a few of my favorite soundtracks or composers:

  • Harry Potter (duh)
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Hunger Games
  • Inception
  • Jurassic Park
  • Pirates of the Caribbean

  • John Williams
  • Hans Zimmer
  • James Newton Howard
  • Howard Shore

Country Music

I am a huge country music fan. Living in Texas, it’s kind of a necessity! We have the Rodeo every year that’s full of country music concerts, and I have been every year we have been here so far. In 2015 I saw Tim McGraw, in 2016 I saw Kenny Chesney, and I just bought my tickets last week for this year to see Chris Young. I don’t really have a playlist set for my country music. Most often, I listen to country while I am in the kitchen cooking or baking. But instead of a playlist, I just tell the echo to play country music and it pulls the top country music. Some of my favorites do include Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Chris Young, Carrie Underwood, and so many others.

I know some people who concentrate better in silence. Music works better for me, the music of my choosing. Depending on what I am focusing on determines what type of music. So now I want to know, what do you listen to when you need to focus?
