A few years ago, while we were on vacation at our beach condo in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, my sister was on dinner duty. She decided she was going to make some Hawaiian roll sliders for the family. I had never had sliders before other than hamburger slider appetizers at restaurants.

This slider recipe is an easy recipe to make for a crowd. It’s perfect for a game day appetizer or a simple weeknight dinner main dish. Sliders are mini sandwiches that can often be eaten in one or two bites. They are finger-food appetizers.

The recipe reminds me of hot ham and cheese sandwiches but with an extra flair to them. The honey mustard topping is what makes these so delicious.

Hawaiian Sliders Step by Step

Ingredients

  • 12-pack sweet Hawaiian rolls
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 8 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350F.

Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half crosswise.

Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 baking dish.

Top with the ham and cheese and bake for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the butter, dijon mustard, honey, and poppy seeds.

Set the tops of the rolls on the sandwiches and smother them with the butter mixture.

Bake for another 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

Separate the individual sliders and serve warm.

Hawaiian Sliders Leftovers

Storage: Store leftover Hawaiian sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

Reheating: Reheat the sliders in the microwave, a toaster oven, or a regular oven until just warmed through.

Ham and cheese is a good comfort food and sliders are nice because you can control your portions. I wonder if these would be just as good made with beef instead of ham?

  2. These look gorgeous! I’ve never made sliders at home before, especially not the bread! But as we come into the summer we’ll be BBQing more, and it would be great to say we made everything (within reason) ourselves!

There’s a lovely Lancashire cafe here in the UK that does these style of sliders. Simply yummy.

This is something that we often have with our cousins, except for the honey. That mixture of salt and sugar is still so strange to me…
