When we have friends over, sometimes it’s nice to have a yummy drink. Especially when it’s warm outside, we need a good way to cool off. Before we had an outdoor party recently, I made some amaretto punch slush.

The amaretto slush is very easy to make and stays nice and cool for a while. It was almost like having a slushy. Before it really melted, we needed a spoon for it. By the end of the afternoon, it was perfect for sipping on.

Be careful, though. This boozy punch can be a dangerous drink! It’s so fruity you hardly notice the alcohol in it. It’s perfect for your next party, especially warm summer barbecues, or for sipping next to the pool.

Is this an Amaretto Sour?

The recipe is very similar to the classic cocktail called Amaretto Sour. You are mixing sweet and sour recipe elements with Amaretto and soda. The biggest difference, though, is that this will be frozen and served as a slushie drink.

Punch Ingredients

Sugar

You will use the sugar to make a simple syrup. You make a simple syrup when it gets boiled with water until clear. This is perfect for mixing into drinks to add sweet flavor without the sugar granules adding grittiness to your drinks.

Water

As stated above, the water is used for boiling with the sugar to make simple syrup. To make a simple syrup, you use an equal number of cups of water to cups of sugar.

Orange Juice Concentrate

Orange juice concentrate is found in the freezer section of the grocery store. It comes in a small round tube with other frozen fruit. The concentrate works well for the slush since it has a lot of flavor and is already thickened. For a slightly more sour drink, try replacing it with lemonade concentrate or using a mixture of the two.

Pineapple Juice

While I prefer to use fresh pineapple juice, 46 ounces is a lot and would take a lot of pineapples. It’s best to purchase canned pineapple juice for this recipe.

Amaretto

You’ll want to get classic amaretto for this recipe. I used two cups which is equivalent to 8 oz of amaretto. Amaretto is a sweet drink with a bit of a nutty flavor. You can replace it with hazelnut liquor if needed. Or, for a non-alcoholic version, there’s a brand called Lyre’s that makes a drink called Amaretti.

7-Up

I use 7-Up for mine, but any lime and lemon juice flavored soda will work. Another good substitute would be Sprite or Ginger Ale.

Garnish Options

The perfect cocktail is not only delicious but has a great array of garnishes on top.

  • Orange slice
  • Maraschino cherry
  • A splash of cherry juice
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Lemon slices
  • A floater of Southern Comfort or Malibu Rum

Amaretto Punch Slush Leftovers

Once the punch has thawed, I would not recommend refreezing it. We tried and it wasn’t the same the next time. This makes a lot, so you can freeze it in multiple containers to only take out what you need.

  1. I’m a massive fan of a cocktail slush, and this looks so yummy. I need to bust out our slush puppy maker and try out some concoctions x

  2. 5 stars
I do love the sound of this. We really enjoy slush cocktails but I’ve never made my own before. I bet it tastes amazing, I love that it has pineapple for a tropical flavour.

    1. Half a bottle??? What size bottle?? There are more than one size bottles of amaretto. Usually slush recipes call for two to four cups of alcohol. I’m guessing the one liter bottle is the correct size. I’m making it today and hoping I have the right size. THANKS!!

      1. Yes, you are correct, it’s a 1-liter bottle, so you’ll want about 2 cups. I had to look up the size of the bottle. I’ll edit the recipe to have the amount. Enjoy!

  3. Slush drinks like this are PERFECT for the heat that we’ve been living through lately – between Extreme Heat Warnings and Humidex Warnings, we’re looking for any possible solution to stay cool. I am going to make up a few of these for our next backyard hang-out. I’m sure the neighbours will love it!
