2016 Garden Update #10

I wasn’t sure I would be able to get outside today to even get my garden update photos. It has been raining here for almost a week straight. We have breaks here and there, but there’s been rain every day. The boys have hated being so cooped up in the house (and so have I), but the garden has loved all this rain! Except the lettuce, those are falling over. Then again, I think the lettuce is bolting which means it wasn’t going to grow anyways, so I am not too worried about it. When we planted the garden, we said this year would be more experimental and just see what happens. I am pretty proud of what has grown so far at least! The only downfall to all the rain…. it also helped all the grass grow better in the garden too. So whenever the rain stops and I get a chance, I am going to have to go out there and pull some grass, again. When we redo the garden and garden beds in a couple months (once the weather outside is bearable), I am going to try to figure out a way to try to keep the grass from growing under the garden. Our tomato plant is also flopping over, I don’t know if that’s from the wind and rain, or because it is just growing too tall and I don’t have anything else to try to help it vine on right now. As usual, the banana tree is growing like a weed!

The green onions/chives are growing well, the lettuce is all falling over, and the celery is holding steady back there in the corner!
I’m not sure how much longer our poor tomato plant is going to last.
The carrots seem to be flourishing with all the rain we have gotten lately. The broccoli is starting to grow as well, and the onions aren’t doing too much still.
Look at those green onions grow!
The lettuce couldn’t handle the storms we have gotten lately. I’ll have to pull most of this soon.
My herbs still haven’t recovered from not having much water for 10 days during the hottest time of the year. I have a feeling these are going to all need to be redone soon as well.
But of course, I can’t fail with my banana tree!!
